Almost a blog...

Oh, dear computer... Oct. 6th, 2009
I resent computers. (a friend told me I shouldn't say "I hate" so freely). As a matter of fact, I litteraly spend hours everyday: e-mail, Web site update, and then this kinda blog...  The tool is so vertsatile and efficient, I can't get away without it. But there's no doubt, I don't like having to spend hours staring  at an illuminating panel  with only my hands slightly moving about.
For hours.
No!

This  is all because I just completed a long and overdue clean-up of Soulsmithing and  its file organizations on the server. I successfully deleted half of the files without changing the site! Just  a load of html reprogramming. Arrgh!

I  did wrap three tool handles: my newly made teko (the bar onto which is weld the steel when performing tanren), the kiri-tagane mentioned yesterday (how ugly!), and  a humble scraper.

First post: Almost a blog... Oct. 5th, 2009
Kinda blog, because it's just another web page, but its format reminds us...

In here I'm hoping to share thoughts and anecdotes on what is happening: about things that are not worthy of an article, but still interesting enough to be shared and, hopefully, enjoyed.

Today was a great day at the forge: great because everything I tried worked. That's rare. I successfully made blanks for two bō-shuriken. The picture shows them as is: no filing, just hammering. I'm hoping to make them with yari-like points, never seen this, so don't know how it'll look!

Then I forged one octogonal bar: a blank that should provide enough for two or three sun-tetsu, an Edo period self-defence weapon.

I improved my ugly kiri-tagane (the tool used for cutting steel during tanren, the forge-folding process), and even tuned-up the power hammer's clutch. The beast is dated 1966, after all.
